New Year, New Job: Finding the right job for you

We are in the New Year and people are setting and acting upon their New Year’s resolutions. You might have set resolutions to start exercising a little more, save for that dream holiday you always wanted to go on and maybe to start looking for a new job that is right for your career aspirations and personal development.

If you are thinking about finding a new job this year, don’t worry as you are not alone with these thoughts of new beginnings. A lot of people throughout the UK. start to think about looking for new employment opportunities during the start of the New Year. However, it can be tough to find a job that is right for you.

So, we have put together some pointers that will help you in your job search.

Start by thinking about what it is you want

It sounds obvious; however, you need to have an in-depth understanding of what it is that you are looking for, as it will help guide you in your job search. Are you looking for a career change or just a chance to meet new people, perhaps you might be looking for career progression into a more senior role at your current job?

Once you know what it is that you are looking for, you can start making a plan for what you are going to do whilst searching for a job that is right for you. CVs- maybe it’s time to refresh your CV or make one

It is great to spend a few minutes on your CV to make sure that it is up-to-date with your employment history, education (if you have been training during the year) and your achievements or personal statement – this is very important to keep ‘fresh’ and up-to-date because it is a great way to summarise and sell yourself to prospective employers. Next, start searching

There are many ways that you can find a job, including using online job boards, reaching out to employers directly and networking – social media can be great for this, but you should also go to your friends and family to see if they know of any companies that are recruiting.
