We are recruiting for an Associate Scientist to work for a leading household name based in Milton Keynes.
Basic salary of up to £27,000 per annum
33 days holiday inc bank holidays
DUTIES INVOLVED IN THIS VACANCY:
*Responsible for understanding technical principles and the scientific bases involved in the research projects or support tasks assigned
*Performs project leadership and staff coaching functionally
*Focus is on mid-term (up to a year) projects and programs
*Accomplishes objectives involving moderate complexity of technical, scientific problems
*Performs literature searches, supplier searches and composes reports on the current state of science or technology for assigned topics.
*Composes testing and research protocols in accordance with established R&D guidelines for products either in development or commercialized and requiring technical support; coordinates with outside laboratory facilities if required.
*Creates required documentation for product support activities and populates the necessary databases with such items as bills of material, testing procedures, manufacturing specifications, product performance criteria.
*Maintains files of project histories, outcomes and current status utilizing internal databases and both electronic and hard-copy files; notifies senior R&D staff when necessary to ensure that missing information is obtained and included in project files.
*Operates in-house laboratory equipment and performs experiments as directed by senior R&D staff, ensuring proper laboratory notes are maintained and all intellectual property protection methods are employed.
*Functionally guides technicians as required, in support of assigned tasks.
*Contributes ideas towards improving R&D methods, adding to the scientific knowledge of the team and solving moderately complex scientific problems.
*Knowledgeable in the specific scientific field required for the assignment, typically including chemistry, formulations, material interactions and/or mechanical properties of materials
*Knowledge of communication methods and how to apply them: written, presentations, oral and symbolic
*Knowledge of the basic functions or research and development groups, and specifically those related to the company's activities
*Knowledge of math up to and including algebra and basic statistics (descriptive statistics, correlational statistics, sampling)
*Knowledge of the scientific method: formation of hypotheses, experimental design, variable identification and controls, sources of error, etc.
*Able to solve moderately complex scientific problems by applying the scientific method of experimentation
*Bachelor's degree in chemistry, material science, physics or related technical field
